We are saddened to report the passing of Helen M. Cummings on November 12, 2023. She was a GLS Alumna in the class of 1950 and became a GLS teacher and Department Head of Foreign Languages. One student who learned Spanish from her said that one thing special about Miss Cummings was her enthusiasm for social interactions among students. She remembers Miss Cummings urging students to visit a Spanish restaurant, Casa Romero perhaps.
The GLSAA received a charitable bequest of $25,000 from her estate. Her generous gift will support outreach efforts of the GLSAA.

Marie Spence, '69 shared a "small world" story. Her sister, Stephanie Spence Diamond, '70, heard from one of her classmates about coming across an old textbook with Marie's name as the last student to sign for it. Stephanie forwarded the book to Marie. An MTA Student Transfer was still in the book. Miss Purdy had threatened to prevent Marie from graduation because she couldn't find the book. "I sobbed, and Miss Purdy relented," said Marie. She took the book to a reunion and they all had a good laugh at this story.

The GLSAA all-class Luncheon was held on May 15, 2025 at Granite Links, Quincy MA. There were more than 140 alums in attendance, plus several "drivers". The Class of 1975, celebrating their 50th, had the largest turnout, 22 alums.

Chris Santos, '70: "The venue was beautiful, the food was great, and the company was amazing!"
Arlene Abramson, '70: "Excellent...all details were great and venue was great."
Estelle Harms Passeri, '64: "So fun! Excellent!"
Mary O'Neil Mullaney, '60: "I'm happy I attended even though there were only two there from my class."
Joyce Murray Ehrenzweig, '62: "The venue, the program, and the meal were great."
Marie Spence, '69: "The turnout of alumnae was tremendous! I am already looking forward to next year.

Marie Spence, '69 reported to us about her 55th class reunion, held on October 19, 2023. It was a catered luncheon (sandwiches, salads, fruit, and desserts) in the Clubhouse at The Hampden Place Condos in Chestnut Hill, where a classmate resided. Approximately 35 alums attended, representing all homerooms. They sang our Alma Mater and Let There Be Peace on Earth. "It was a joyous occasion!" wrote Marie. Thank you, Marie, for sharing with us.

If you know of GLS alums who are not receiving the GLSAA Newsletter,
please direct them to register on the GLSAA Website.
